Project role

The goal of the VOLVO group in ELMAR is to develop and demonstrate a transport solution for zero emission from extraction up to the delivery to the customer.

By combining the strength of our different units, the Volvo Group will showcase a vertically integrated transport solution.

Volvo Autonomous Solutions will implement the fully electric and autonomous TARA system on two sites in Germany; Nivelsteiner Sandwerke and the Eigenrieden limestone quarry. Together with the site operators, we will integrate and demonstrate the autonomous transport system in the quarry operation.

Volvo Construction Equipment will implement an electric Excavator. In addition, interfaces are utilized for connecting Volvo machines to the communication infrastructure of our project partners. The use of the process data is part of the research.

Volvo Trucks will implement electric trucks to deliver the extracted and processed material from site to customer.
