PSI FLS Fuzzy Logik & Neuro Systeme GmbH

General company description:

The PSI Group develops software products to optimize the flow of energy and materials for utilities and industry. As an independent software manufacturer with over 2,300 employees, PSI has been the technology leader for process control systems since 1969, which ensure sustainable energy supply, mobility and production by combining AI methods with industrially proven optimization processes. The innovative industry products can be operated by the customer themselves or in the cloud.

From the Industrial Artificial Intelligence division , PSI provides decision support, learning process data analyses, predictive monitoring and value-adding production optimizations – regardless of industry and context using its Qualicision AI technology, such as:

  • in sequencing and scheduling in the automotive industry,
  • to decarbonize the metal industry,
  • for cost efficiency in energy trading,
  • monitoring, control and maintenance of power grids and
  • for the optimization of industrial processes from raw material extraction to
  • for optimized parking and charging of public transport.

All of these activities will be incorporated into the planned development of a cloud-based platform for integrated real-time control and optimization for climate-neutral raw material extraction.

Project role

As part of the PSI goals , a cloud-based IT platform is to be designed and implemented as a demonstrator to support the climate-neutral operation of an electrified raw materials extraction plant. The holistic data- and model-based Industry 4.0 approach enables comprehensive optimization of existing and future operating concepts towards green raw material extraction. The IT platform provides the project partners with data via their connections to the means of production and energy supply systems of the participating raw material extraction companies. The data is the basis for deriving the models of an integrated electrified operation based on the actual state of a conventional extraction operation. The resulting models are prototypically integrated into the IT platform as part of the use cases and form the basis for optimizing operations. . Furthermore, the technical and economic aspects of raw material extraction, which is characterized by small and micro-enterprises, are to be clarified in particular. The IT platform created in this project is intended to make expensive implementation projects superfluous. To this end, subsequent sales processes, installation and deployment processes as well as the self-training features will be analyzed and implemented as a prototype.

This shall converge onto the offer of a cloud-based service which allows raw material extraction companies to operate their production at the energetical optimum under sustainability criteria. The service offers 24-hour or shift based online decision support for the operation, which contrasts and optimizes the availability of regenerative electrical energy, the requirements of raw material extraction (from mining up to delivery) and the resource availability in a multi-criterial approach. To achieve this, the models of the partners are integrated and the located coherences of different subprocesses are figured out.

Sub tasks are:

  • Vehicles which are connected to the cloud platform and are integrated or coupled to the different models
  • The provisioning of a productive and individual instance of the cloud with the necessary online surveillance functions for an operator, including modules and templates of parameterizing of the located ressources. This shall be made possible through are integrated step-by-step guide (e.g. videos, guided tours or chats)
  • Provisioning of a requirement catalogue to tether the raw material extraction plants and provisioning of a data-driven and step-by-step plan oriented to the transformation process
  • The communication of all connections between field level and cloud service are encrypted
